The title of fastest shark in the world goes to the Mako Shark, which can swim up to 50 miles an hour.

The oldest shark fossil ever discovered is from the Devonian Period, estimated to be about 450 million years old… give or take a few months!

The Portuguese Shark can be found in depths up to 8,920 feet, where they feed on squid and bottom-dwelling fishes.

Two sharks don’t need salt water to survive: the Bull Shark and River Shark. Pretty cool!

Sharks don’t have bones, but you can find shark fossils in the sea because as they grow older, they deposit calcium salts in their cartilage to strengthen it.

Sharks have really good eyesight. They can see well in dimly lit areas and have great night vision, although they aren’t able to distinguish colors.

You could, theoretically, hypnotize a shark by flipping it upside down—although we wouldn’t suggest you go out and try to find a shark to try this on.
