Five Fang-tastic Facts About Edward Cullen

Five Fang-tastic Facts About Edward Cullen

3 minute read

It’s our favorite “vegetarian” vampire’s birthday on June 20th! We’re celebrating the swooniest, angstiest, sparkliest vampire of them all. Here are five facts about Edward Cullen – our favorite fangy teen heartthrob:

1. He is a Gemini & a Metal Ox

Edward was born on June 20, 1901. That means he’s a Gemini according to Western astrology, born in the year of the Metal Ox. He would be turned by Carlisle Cullen only seventeen years later in 1918. According to his astrological signs, Edward is diligent, honest, gentle, and frank. As well as a playful, creative, and loyal partner. But you knew that part already! 😉

2. He came to Stephanie Meyer in a dream

Stephanie Meyer said that she dreamed of a “fantastically beautiful. . . sparkly vampire” and an “average girl” having an intense conversation in the woods about how he had a hard time “restraining himself from killing” the girl. Meyer also said that she chose the name Edward because it was an old-fashioned name that used to be considered romantic. Perfect name for a vampire, if you ask us!

3. He was almost played by Henry Cavill

Meyer said that Henry Cavill was her “perfect Edward.” Unfortunately (or fortunately for Robert Pattinson stans), by the time the movie was optioned in 2007, Cavill was 24—too old to realistically play Edward. Fans also reportedly wanted Hayden Christensen, Orlando Bloom, and Gerard Way to play him. And, look, we LOVED R-Patz, but now we can’t stop thinking about the MCR vocalist as Edward. That would’ve been wild.

4. He doesn’t actually need to breathe

It was omitted from the movie, but Edward and the other vampires didn’t technically need to breathe. He could swim for long periods of time and didn’t run out of breath. In the books, he holds his breath for days just to avoid smelling Bella. (Well… her blood, at least.)

5. He is an INFP

Turns out Edward’s Myers-Briggs type is INFP. He’s devoted, idealistic, and selective about who he lets into his inner circle. He’s got a strong moral compass and desperately wants to live life by his ideals. And he’s in good company! Other fictional characters that fall under the INFP category are Frodo Baggins (LOTR), Uncle Iroh (ATLA), Castiel (Supernatural), and Newt Scamander (from the HP Universe/Fantastic Beasts).

Happy 121st Birthday, Edward! And many (many, many, many) more to come.
