Fun Facts About 6 Mythological Gods

2 minute read

At the Hoard, we love celebrating mythology. And some of the defining themes of the stories we know and love are the gods themselves! Here are fun facts about 6 mythological Gods.

Let me introduce our top six gods that have graced the Hoard with their presence…

Thor, the Norse God of Lightning

One of the most famous gods in the Norse pantheon, Thor is the son of Odin and the god of thunder and lightning.

Did you know one of his claims to fame is that ‘Thursday’ is named after ‘Thor’s Day?

Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea

The mighty trident-wielding god of the sea and all its creatures, he was one of the main three gods besides Zeus and Hades.

Did you know he was also the god of horses? Sailors used to sacrifice horses for a safe journey across the sea.

Anubis, the Egyptian God of the Dead

The canine-headed man, Anubis is most associated with mummification and the afterlife, including the ‘weighing of the heart’ ritual which every mortal went through.

Did you know that after contact with the Greeks, Hermes and Anubis were merged into Hermanubis?

Odin, the Norse God of Creation

Odin was the king of Asgard and the father to Thor, but also considered the father to all other gods.

Just like Thor, Odin was attributed to ‘Wednesday’ as ‘Woden’ was Odin in old English.

Bastet, the Egyptian Goddess of Protection

Daughter of Ra, she is the goddess of the home, protection and felines (with a feline head!) She was also a fierce warrior.

Did you know that her appearance and role became more docile and domesticated as the cat became domesticated?

Ra, the Egyptian God of the Sun

Ra was the god of light, warmth and growth, and in Egypt this was the most important role, so he was the head of the pantheon.

Did you know that stories say that human beings were created by Ra’s tears?

And that’s our deities of the hoard! Which one is your favorite? Ps. check out below for our fun jewelry!
