Here at the Wyvern’s Hoard we hold many of the old Gods of ancient mythology in high esteem.
And as we believe in giving them the reverence they deserve, this week’s blog post will introduce you to some of our favorites.
So without further ado, here are our top 6 Gods from times of ancient mythology…
6. BASTET
Bastet was the Ancient Egyptian goddess of cats, the home, fire, sunrise, music, dance, pleasure as well as sexuality, fertility and family. Believed to be the "Soul of Isis", she was known as The Sacred Cat. As the warrior daughter of the sun god Ra, she was also his defender. She was seen as a guardian of family and a protector of the pharaohs of Egypt.
5. HERMES
This fleet-footed deity was the messenger of the gods. He was thought to be the protector of travellers, merchants, thieves and more. Thanks to his winged sandals he could move freely between the divine and mortal realism, and he was often considered the ‘trickster’ of the Greek pantheon.
4. POSEIDON
In the time of ancient Greece, the sea was an essential part of life. Because of this, it had great significance in Greek culture. As Poseidon was the god of the sea and ruler of all within it, this gave him a very powerful position among the gods of Olympus and was revered as one of the most powerful forces in existence.
3. THOR
This hammer-wielding Norse god was the son of Odin - the ‘All-Father’ and ruler of the gods. If this wasn’t enough to cement Thor’s position of seniority among the heavenly ranks, he was also the god of thunder, strength and fertility. Together with his mighty weapon, Mjolnir, Thor struck a powerful figure that few had the strength to match.
2. RA
The Egyptian gods were truly powerful yet intriguingly enigmatic. One such god was Ra. He was the god of the sun and sky and was believed to have created the Earth, sky and underworld. As all life forms were believed to have been created by Ra, he had an understandably high standing in the Egyptian pantheon of gods and was highly respected.
1. ODIN
The greatest of the Norse gods was associated with wisdom, healing, death, battle, victory and much more. He is often seen as the founding figure of various Germanic peoples and was worshipped across a number of north European societies of old. He was also said to play a critical role in Ragnarok - the end of the world.
While these are our top 5 gods, there are literally hundreds more in various mythologies around the world to discover and fall in love with.
And to celebrate the wonder and inspiration they still bring us mere mortals today, here is our range of treasures inspired by these great Gods of ancient mythology.
