Hey, X-Files fans! Today, the 23rd of February, is the birthday of everyone’s favorite skeptic: Dana Scully.
Played by the talented Gillian Anderson, Scully has captured the hearts of fans worldwide with her intelligence and unwavering pursuit of the truth.
Let’s look back at some of the monsters Scully and Fox brought to heel.
The Flukeman
One of the most terrifying creatures encountered by Scully and Mulder, the Flukeman first appeared in the second season episode "The Host." A humanoid parasite born from toxic waste, this grotesque monster lurked in the sewers, preying on unsuspecting victims. Its appearance still sends shivers down the spine of X-Files fans.
Eugene Victor Tooms
In the episode "Squeeze," viewers were introduced to Eugene Victor Tooms, a genetic mutant capable of stretching and contorting his body to fit through impossibly small spaces. Tooms had a penchant for squeezing through ventilation shafts to enter homes, where he would feast on the livers of his victims. His eerie ability and relentless pursuit of prey made him one of the most memorable monsters in the series.
The Peacock Family
In the episode "Home," Scully and Mulder encounter the Peacock family, a group of inbred individuals living in rural Pennsylvania. In true Texas Chainsaw-style, the deformed and ghastly Peacocks murder, maim, and commit all manner of monstrosities in the name of family. This chilling episode is often cited as one of the most disturbing in X-Files history, and was immediately banned after its premiere in 1996.
The Great Mutato
In "The Post-Modern Prometheus”, an homage to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Cronenberg’s The Fly, introduces viewers to the Great Mutato. The Great Mutato is a misunderstood creature, the product of a mad scientist’s genetic experiments. Despite his monstrous appearance, the Mutato possesses a kind heart and longs for acceptance from society. This episode stands out for its heartwarming portrayal of an unconventional monster and the bond that forms between Scully, Mulder, and the Mutato.
Don’t know about you, but all that reading about X-Files made me want to go binge-watch the entire series in Dana Scully’s name!
