Tarot Cards: The Major Arcana (Part 2)

Tarot Cards: The Major Arcana (Part 2)

3 minute read

Welcome back! If you haven’t read Part 1 of this series, now’s as good a time as any to catch up.

Or don’t. It’s your call.

We’re taking a deep dive into the most iconic cards of the mystical Tarot deck: the set of 22 cards collectively known as the Major Arcana.

In Part 1, we looked at the first five cards in this set. In this installment, we’ll be discussing the next five. Ready? Read on!

The Hierophant

Despite a name that sounds like a tie-dye wearing pachyderm, this male counterpart to the High Priestess is all business.

Sometimes referred to as “the Pope” or “the High Priest,” the Hierophant represents institutional authority, convention, and orthodoxy. When he appears in your reading, it may be an indication that your life could use more structure and organization.

The Lovers

Typically represented by a pair of lovers — no big surprise, there — this card emphasizes the importance of honesty and communication in your relationships.

Some Tarot readers interpret the Lovers as a sign that your life is approaching a major crossroads, and that you should slow down and avoid making any hasty decisions.

The Chariot

No matter what obstacles lay in its path, the Chariot keeps on rolling. It represents willpower, victory, control, and success.

While pulling this card during a reading does not guarantee you will realize all your dreams, it does indicate that your hard work and perseverance will pay off if you just keep going. You got this.

Strength

With its depiction of a woman taming a lion or tiger, the Strength card represents courage, confidence, and animal instinct. It symbolizes the triumph of good over evil; cunning and intelligence over brute strength.

Drawing this card should remind you that you — not your fears or passions — are in control, and that you can use your power to protect yourself and the ones you love

The Hermit

This symbol of solitude represents the quest for knowledge and enlightenment through self-reflection and personal, spiritual journey.

The Hermit teaches us that in busy times that demand constant action and attention, the best way to stay happy and healthy is to step back and take a break from all the noise.

Stay tuned for Part 3!

We hope you’re enjoying this journey through the Tarot’s Major Arcana. Come back soon for our next installment, when we explore the next group of cards.
