Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Okay, this one isn’t new on anyone’s list, but we think it’s worth repeating that this game is probably one of the lushest, most immersive games in the Zelda franchise, if not in existence. Which is a bold claim, but we’ve never been bored playing thousands of hours of BotW what with all the wealth of things you can do in your game.
It Takes Two
Honestly the perfect game to play if you’re playing with someone else. It Takes Two takes co-op to a whole new level, and without spoiling anything for anyone who hasn’t played through it yet, has a heartwarming, aw-inducing story. Not to mention the incredible, psychedelic graphics and soundtrack!
Hollow Knight
Released in 2017, this is another game that isn’t technically “new” but five years later still feels fresh. The game’s worldbuilding, music, character design, and combat mechanics have received critical acclaim. You can spend hours exploring and getting lost in subterranean locations, and those 2D graphics?! Chef’s kiss.
Wildermyth
A very cool spin on the tactical roleplaying game. You get the traditional story beats of a traditional RPG, but as you continue you will see that no two play-throughs are the same, with new traits, relationships, and narrative opportunities you build through gameplay. The game was released in ‘21 for Windows and a Switch version is currently in development!
Death’s Door
This 3D isometric action-adventure game lets you take the role of a crow, who BTW is a reaper collecting souls for a bureaucratic afterlife. It features quirky humor, a splash of metaphysics, and engaging gameplay. And you get to be a CROW. Do we really need to say more?!
