Japanese, Korean and Chinese folklore share common legends and beliefs about foxes, who were said to be messengers of heaven.
Fox spirits, or kitsune, were said to have supernatural abilities which grew as they aged. The older, wiser and more powerful a fox spirit was, the more tails it would have.
The most powerful kitsune had up to nine tails, and were referred to as "Kyubi". Upon reaching its 1,000th year, the Kyubi would turn a white or golden color before ascending to the heavens. These kitsune were known as tenko, or celestial foxes.
As such, nine-tailed foxes were regarded as good omens and worshiped as deities. They were said to possess the power to ward off evil, and served as guardian spirits.
Belief in their power over evil is such that even today, in feng shui, nine-tailed fox statues are used to dispel evil kimon, or energy from an area.
This beautiful Kyubi pendant is carved from rainbow and gold obsidian stone.
Obsidian is commonly used to absorb or deflect negative energies, and is enhanced when carved into a positive symbol of protection.
As the pendant is carved with natural rainbow obsidian, it appears almost black in natural light and takes on different hues of color when placed under strong light. This ensures that no two pendants are exactly alike.
A beautiful and meaningful accessory for yourself or a loved one.
**Please note that due to the nature of the material used, the rainbow obsidian pendant's colors under strong light may differ from those in our photos. Refer to the image gallery for a photo showing the range of color hues.**
