Guan Gong, or Lord Guan, is revered as a God of War, and a paragon of loyalty and righteousness in China, Japan and South Korea.
He was once Guan Yu, a famed general during the era of The Three Kingdoms. A skilled general, his martial prowess was said to be unmatched, and his military victories helped his lord and sworn brother Liu Bei found the Kingdom of Shu.
Upon his death, his life was lionized and glorified, culminating in the 14th century historical novel the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Today, he is worshipped as "Emperor Guan" or "Lord Guan" in Taoism, Buddhism and other folk religions.
He is often depicted with his legendary weapon, the Green Dragon Crescent Blade, said to have magical abilities. Also known as the Frost Fair Blade, it received that name after a battle in snow, where blood froze on the blade and created a permanent layer of bloody frost on the weapon.
