In Norse mythology, the giant sea serpent Jörmungandr is a harbinger of Ragnarok, the destruction of the universe.
Jörmungandr was so large that it could surround the earth and grasp its own tail. When it releases its tail, Ragnarok will begin.
The arrival of Ragnarok causes Yggdrasil, the tree of life, to shudder and shake.Yggdrasil is the mighty tree at the geographical center of the Norse cosmos. The Nine Worlds are held together by its branches and roots, which connect the various parts of the cosmos to one another. Because of this, the well-being of the cosmos depends on the well-being of Yggdrasil.
During the final battle, the twin wolves Skoll and Hati will finally catch the sun and moon and devour them, plunging the world into darkness.
Inspired by Norse mythology, this pendant depicts several creatures who play major roles during Ragnarok. The giant sea serpent Jörmungandr, the children of Fenrir, Skoll and Hati, and Yggdrassil, the tree of life.
Contrary to popular belief, Ragnarok is not the end. Once over, two surviving humans will awaken to a renewed and fertile world. As such, it is really a symbol of the eternal war between Order and Chaos, and represents the cycle of death and rebirth.
A beautiful and meaningful piece for any fan of Norse mythology.
